Religious Education

At De La Salle, religious education is about the development of an open-ended, ‘thinking’ approach to the Catholic tradition, rooted in the core values of our Lasallian heritage.

Pupils follow the archdiocesan programme of study for secondary RE which has been modified to reflect the distinctive character of our school.  All pupils take GCSE Religious Studies, and are required to study Roman Catholic Christianity as the main religion and Judaism as the second religion.  Pupils follow Edexcel GCSE Specification A - Belief and Practice in the 21st Century.

The religious education department aims to:

  • Develop pupils’ abilities in describing, explaining, analysing and evaluating
  • Explore the key principles of inclusion, faith and challenge
  • Enable pupils to develop respect for and sensitivity to others
  • Offer opportunities for personal reflection and spiritual development
