Run With George

As some of you will know, one of our year 7 pupils, George Mathias, set himself a very big challenge…

George’s little brother James became seriously ill when he was 4 weeks old and ended up in a coma in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Alder Hey saved him and gave George his best friend in life.

George wanted to do something to say thank you to Alder Hey for saving James’ life so he decided to set up a charity and run a mile for every month he has had his brother, to say thank you. That’s over 80 miles in total. He has already achieved that and is now running a marathon for every year he has had James: which is 208 miles!

Many of you will have seen the incredible efforts George has gone to so far. He has raised an enormous amount of money and has had a host of celebrities coming to run with him and has won numerous awards, including the Pride of Britain Young Fundraiser of the Year Award 2017.

We have been closely following George’s progress and we wanted to do something special to raise money for this fantastic cause.

Run With George Ball at Liverpool Airport, hosted by Ben Shephard, On the night he raised over £700,000.00 which takes George’s fundraising to more than 3/4 of a million pounds.

Year 7 invited a special guest, Rob Pope, to join us on our very own run with George.

Rob Pope is a vet from Liverpool who has become the first person ever to run across the USA 4 times in 1 year to raise money for charity. He holds the record for the most miles ever run in a year by a British man, which is 15,500 miles. He gave an inspiring presentation to us before the run about how he is a normal guy doing extraordinary things.

We began with some warm up exercises led by George’s mum before the whole of year 7 set off for their run around our school grounds. After the run, it was time for the raffle.  We all gathered together, had the chance to win some fabulous prizes and thanked Rob, George and his family for joining us.

We managed to raise over £1500.00 for Alder Hey children’s hospital so we would like to say a massive thank you to all of our families and friends who sponsored us.

We wish George the best of luck as he continues his amazing fundraising for a fantastic cause!
